MAINTAINING TRAFFIC
While the improvements are being constructed along Carnegie Avenue traffic will be maintained through the use of part-width construction methods (contractor will build one side of the road at a time, while providing travel lanes on the other side of the road) and through the use of detour routes. The project will be constructed in 2 phases, with each phase being complete prior to starting the next phase, as described below:
Phase 1

Phase 1 will construct the southern half of Carnegie Avenue from East 79th Street to MLK Jr. Drive. Part-width construction will be used to maintain one lane of westbound traffic and one lane of eastbound traffic on the northern half of Carnegie Avenue throughout construction.
Access to residences and businesses will be maintained throughout construction.

There is a potential eastbound detour when construction occurs in front of CCF's new NIH building - westbound traffic will remain open.

Phase 2

Phase 2 will construct the northern half of Carnegie Avenue from East 79th Street to MLK Jr. Drive. Part-width construction will be used to maintain one lane of westbound traffic and one lane of eastbound traffic on the southern half of Carnegie Avenue throughout construction.
Access to residences and businesses will be maintained throughout construction.
